New Work: Delish Cookbook

Food styling at Delish is always fun because the team there strives to create work that is playful, unexpected, and (in the words of site-director Jo Saltz) “just a step below disgusting”. I was once told to make a photo look like a raccoon had gotten onto the set. In addition to my regular duties as a food stylist, I’ve donned a gorilla glove, a Santa suit, and made cheeseballs the size of some house cats in their kitchens.

Above all, the team at Delish produces. They create more content on a daily basis than any other group I’ve worked with, and there is no question that they have quickly become one of the most successful digital lifestyle brands. Recently, Delish broke away from the internet to publish their first hard-bound cookbook, and I was happy to help! Some of my favorite images from the book are below.

New Work: Hudsonville Ice Cream Packaging

Last summer I had the great pleasure of spending some of New York City's hottest weeks in the cool (ok, downright cold) walls of Michigan's Hudsonville Ice Cream factory in the suburbs of Grand Rapids. Photographer Hadley Henry and I teamed up with local branding agency Rocket Science to shoot the images that would completely redesign the brand's look and feel by elevating it's packaging to compete with artisanal grocery store brands. The whole experience was a food stylist's dream come true  — a wonderful, trusting team which afforded us the freedom to make creative decisions as needed, not to mention the unlimited ice cream and dry ice!

Throwback Thursday: SELF Magazine Healthy Food Awards

02_Thur_Night_Pizza_047

Each year, SELF Magazine showcases a selection of prepared foods or grocery store items that they deem healthier options compared to (heavily processed) alternatives. This year, they shook things up by commissioning a series of lifestyle shots rather than just showing the products in a lightbox. Christina Holmes, Pamela Duncan Silver and I created these images for them.
